My School
If you have read my last blog, it was about my transition from India to Australia and how excited I was about my new school. My new school’s name is Carlton Gardens primary school. It is really close to a park and right in front of Melbourne Museum. When I shifted here, the school had not started yet and I took opportunity to visit the park sometimes. My school is very close to my home. When I got admission to Carlton Gardens there was a meet and greet held in December with my teachers and classmates. I was really surprised to see the classroom because I was expecting standard furniture including chairs and tables, instead, I saw five bean bags which they called a ‘noomi’ and all types of chairs. What surprised me even more was the teachers, they were really kind and not very strict. The class was full of noise. I was waiting for the teacher to tell us to stop talking but that took a lot of time. We played games the whole time it was really fun.
My school officially started at the end of Jan. I went to school while riding my scooter. My school had 3 buildings. When I arrived at school, my stomach churned. I was really nervous, excited and hesitant all at the same time . I rushed to my class. My class first got a friendly introduction from our teachers. My teacher’s name was ‘Kelly’ and the second teacher’s name was ‘Rachel’. They told us more about how things are going to be in our class. Next, they asked us to collect stationery from the tables. There was a lot of things on the table but the most interesting things were the highlighters and sticky notes. In my old school, I had never seen anyone using a highlighter or sticky notes. After we collected all the things our teachers told us to label our stationery and books. After the introduction, it was time for reading.
For reading, Kelly told us to organise the fiction library from the author’s last name. It was really hard but we did it. Then it was recess. Recess is a little break where we are supposed to eat snacks. I didn’t have friends so I was feeling a bit lonely so just read my book. I was missing my old friends. Recess was only half an hour long but it felt like hours. Next period was writing and for writing we had to do heart unpacking (a framework for structuring our thoughts in a heart) which I had no clue how to do but eventually, I learned more about it. After school was over we had two choices. To take the flat footpath or go through the park. We took the park path because it had a slant. It was like sliding from a hilltop just while riding a scooter. I would have reached home in four minutes but I had to wait for my parents as both my parents came to pick me up after the school.
After attending my first day of school in Australia which was really interesting, I realized how different it is from the schools in India and may be I would like to talk about that in my next blog. So happy reading !!!

Good read. Will be interested to read how did you get adjusted into your new school and what are your thoughts now.
